Alta 12/8/09

Today we finally got a pretty decent powder day. Alta reported 4 inches (last I checked), but it was easily more like 8-10 with windloaded areas that were thigh deep. It's still snowing lightly up here, and it is forecast to continue on and off through the week. The light was pretty flat but we stayed in the trees and were fine. Ballroom and the Shoulder didn't open today so when that rope drops in the near future it should be pretty nice. Several runs through Freds/Race Course area, followed by several more through West Rustler. We found the best snow in West Rus and Freds (before the rocks became exposed), as well as some great snow off the "Easier Way Down" cat track at the bottom of Collins.

Here's a picture of one of the cooks at the Snowpine Lodge, Pat

Bout 15 on the deer valley/midway ridge line. Wind loaded, some crack propegation. No slabs reactive.

Got gate-d in after getting up there. Had to drive a two storm unplowed road down through wasatch park to midway. Truck got over the hood face shots. Luckily the gate was chained but unlocked at the bottom.

That's certainly an innovative way to get to work!
