Finally!
19" of fresh powder this am as I checked the Alta website and double-checked that the LCC road was indeed opening at 8:15am.
1 1/2 feet of snow + local schools out on spring/easter break + LCC closed for a couple hours = gridlock. Took close to an hour to get from Cottonwood Heights to the GMD parking lot. But it was worth it. Collins was crowded but manageable until around 11:30, after that was basically ski-up. Plenty of fresh shots through mid-day. We had about 6" fall during the day, which along with the wind kept things fresh.
Backside was closed all day, but everything I tried was good. No real evidence of the hardpack and bumps lurking a couple feet beneath. I'm here on vacation with my family, so a lot of the day was spent on the blue groomers--although today that really meant knee deep powder--my daughter loved it. When I broke away for a few solo runs, I started with Gunsight. Nice waist-deep fluff. Probably not worth the climb, given how good everything else was. High Rustler was well traveled by the time I hit it, but held up very well. I nice run. Eagles Nest was even better.
The best powder I found was on Greeley Bowl/Greeley Hill. Skied untracked, waist-deep powder at 3pm (for some reason people must avoid this one).
I've been in town since Sun, and had to endure Mon & Tues conditions (alternatively bumpy, icy, and windy). But starting Wed things got much better. The the next several days look promising as well, but tomorrow is my last.
