Thursday night featured a free rockin' Andrew Bird and Josh Ritter show at the Gallivan center. What a great place to go people watching! Friday was another freebie with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals (hell ya Vermont, she must have done two or three encores up there) up at the Bird. After two nights of being a slacker, I was certainly ready to get outside and get after it this weekend.

Saturday morning we got up into Ferguson Canyon and did some pretty sweet boldering, and easy soloing to try out my new sportiva rock shoes. Great spot to hang out and its dog friendly which is pretty cool. A splendid location to spend much of Saturday, chillin in the shade while the rest of the valley was exercising its power as an oven. Came back to the pad and had a nice brat, and beer-bq. Friendly bratwursting turned into beebee target practice on the case of beer, little did I know I'd gone climbing with a bunch of sharp shooters.

Sunday featured a solo journey up to Albion basin for some more July skiing. Started the journey off by heading straight towards the Devils Castle apron. On my way up there were a lot of people. Even a very little kid who commented on the size of my skis. :P After leaving the trail I hardly saw a soul. The snow line was at about 9,800 ft (according to my watch). And extended up about 600 or 700 feet, until it cliffs up. A pretty good ski for mid July, probably not as fun as main chute though. From there I put my shoes back on and contoured around at 9'800 feet below cecret lake over to gunsight. Where the snow went all the way down to about 9,600 feet, and up to the ridge. A little more than half way up I got chased down by a t-storm. (Second time this has happened in a month, guess I need to start a touch earlier.) A great day walking around Alta though. I really like the slab rock below the Sugarloaf lift, lots of fun in there! Anyways, a great weekend.

Folks who only see it in winter have no idea just how much bedrock is showing under there.

Good on you for getting another July ski!
