Alta/ Bird 2/10/13

Went to Alta hoping that Backside and Catherines would open. No such luck.

Started out on Collins lift with an average 5 minute wait most of the morning.

Did the normal rounds: High - T frontside (Greeley) and through piss pass ......all decent lines , not as good as Friday, but nonetheless, some nice soft lines.

Hit up Wildcat and took a few laps over to the far west boundaries -- beautiful lines -- could feel the subsurface but enough snow had fallen to make for some great fun turns. Snow felt much like snow one would get in Tahoe.

Took a few laps on Sugarloaf. Nice soft lines, intermediate...nothing too steep. I always seem to find scraps there....

Headed over to Supreme with the hopes of Catherine's opening. Waited and waited......no dice. Found a few scraps by traversing past Supreme Bowl to the far edge of the boundaries.....not too much to be found.

Mineral Basin had opened up so I headed over to Snowbird to take about 4 laps over there at around 1:45 PM. The snow was "relatively" heavy -- a little wind affected................felt exactly like skiing in California. Relatively crowded.

Snowed most of the morning until about 11 am when it cleared up.

I think ASP is quite happy with being VERY conservative with opening up things.......considering the slabby nature of the snow ....

Hoping Backside/Catherines/Ballroom opens Tuesday.........

Nearly four inches of water weight on an already unstable snowpack will make you conservative.

btw......do you ski?
Usually.....but not so much this season so far though. Got in about 10 days in Dec then got really sick right after Xmas which lasted into early Feb. Also had to work a solid two weekends during all that.

If you're referring to yesterday.......unlike Admin, Amy, and apparently you, I have a real day job where I'm expected to be available....

Also -
I *really* dislike skiing in large groups, so if there's a posse (hate that term) of 12, you'll probably not see me.
I've been having increasing problems over the past few years with flat light, fog, poor vis, etc - the disorientation leaves me nauseated and falling over unexpectedly - it kinda makes the skiing unfun - so I'm usually not around on storm days, no matter how plentiful or excellent the powder may be, although trees make that a lot easier....which could also mean Solitude or Brighton instead of Alta.
