Started out on Wildcat. Alta reported 7" fresh. Driving up the canyon, there sure didnt seem to be 7 inches on the trees.....
Collins was unusually packed so I took a ride up Wildcat. Going up Wildcat it was apparent that there would be pick and choose lines --- some spots were definitely wind affected with approximately 5" of fluff on top of a firm subsurface. It was definitely a day to know where the snow accumulated and got pushed due to the notable winds that came with the tail end of the storm.
First run of the day is always sublime -- face shot city. The hill had filled in nicely and there were many a good lines to be had. Line at Collins winded down. I took Collins to East Greeley. Solid 6" but there were definitely spots that had 0" due to the wind so care was to be taken.
Headed over to Supreme and took a run over in Supreme Bowl . Supreme Challenge is just always such a beautiful line. Guaranteed face shots if you hit it early enough. The line had definitely grown at Supreme by that point so I headed to Sugarloaf. Took a lap or two before heading over to Mineral Basin. Baldy was skiing nicely but definitely had some wind affected areas and snow was a little bit heavier. Saw Amy Z flying down the mountain........
Went back to Alta and lapped Sugarloaf. I always find decent stashes there.......went back over to Supreme but the line was quite outrageous......at 11:30 am, even.........
Headed to Sunnyside where there was plenty of untracked, but this run is over so quickly.................
Rope tow over to Wildcat for some leftovers......by this point, there were very limited leftovers.
Took a few more laps up Collins looking for some stashes. West Rustler was definitely wind affected. Some spots had very little snow , especially with steep angle/aspect. As you got lower / lower aspect, the snow filled in.
Got to the car at 1:30. The shortest day I have ever skied at Alta this season. Just .........everything was tracked quickly. I think the kids are on holiday this week?
No pics, left camera in car.
Tomorrow should be good if they open Backside/Ballroom. It sure looked like there was a sizeable avalanche on Ballroom.......I saw no effort to bomb. I'm assuming they are letting the snow settle........
