Alta/Bird 3/15/14

I had just written a really long TR and I hit a button and FTO kicked me out and I lost the report. So.........I'm not going to write another report lol.

Cliff notes version: 3-4" dust on crust. Wind did a real number on the snow that deposited last night. Some fun spots where the wind deposited the snow. Some super rippable lines .....groomers were in great condition where the snow was deposited. Super sh*tty where it was hardpacked and stripped by the wind.

I skied snowbird from 9 am to 12 pm. Alta from 12 to 2 pm. Ran into the Alta Powder Posse w/ Tony Crocker. I'm sure Admin will write a report.

Day started out freezing.........24 deg F w/ 40 mph winds. Ended up picture perfect and a good band down at Cliffside Lodge @ Bird.

Enjoy some of the pics.

I gave a quick response last night and FTO kicked ME out.

I am now in the habit of writing longer reports offline, then cut and pasting to avoid this scenario. I will also continue to load narrative first and then pics because the picture loading process is most vulnerable to slow WiFi, hacked servers etc.

We had to pack and get out of Iron Blosam so did not get on the hill until 10:30. The tram and Mineral Basin were closed until 11AM for high winds, and fortunately Liz and I got up Peruvian shortly after the tunnel opened. By the time we had done a lap out to the windsifted ropeline between Powder Paradise and the Bookends, Liz needed a thaw break and skied over to Alf's at Alta. I poked around a couple more runs, finding consistent windsift in the gully below Sugar Cliffs despite bad visibility.

I retrieved Liz and met jojo at Alf's, skied down to the ropetow and into lunch at Rustler ~10 mins after the rest of the crew. Our service was slow so we missed the High Stoner run. The rest of the afternoon was impressive with lots of soft wind-deposited snow. Highlights were skier's left Highboy (hopefully we'll see some pics from Telejon's brother Malcolm), Susie's Trees and Eagle's Nest. Liz and I also found lots of untracked on the condo run on the way back to Snowbird.

Many thanks also to admin for getting us over to the Black Diamond half price late season sale. I will no longer be sporting mix and match poles and Liz got some warmer gloves and the alpine sole inserts for her AT boots.
