Alta Groomers 23 Mar 08

This report is obviously from an entirely different prospective than Admin’s report on the same day (although we may have seen them from the Collins lift—that’s as close I’ll ever get to that). We drove up the canyon early to get good parking spots. By the time we all had our gear on the lot was well on its way to being full. Doesn’t anyone go to church on Easter?

Rode up Sunnyside and Sugarloaf, then down Razorback for first run, then Extrovert next time down before riding up again and heading over to Supreme for a couple of groomer laps before someone had to use the facilities, so down to Alfs, where we took the opportunity to enjoy a hot chocolate outside in the warm morning sun.

Made our way over to the front side and enjoyed the wide open groomers for a couple of laps before lunch. After lunch pretty much more of the same, except we also did two runs on Ballroom. Must say my daughter and my buddy’s nephew had more fun on Ballroom than I, although I managed (very lame excuse, considering all I had done was ski groomers for the past couple of days, but my legs were tired). We must have skied just about all the blue and black groomer at least once. I quit at 3:45, but the rest of the group did a couple more runs.

Groomer snow quality held up quite well. The only slush I saw was at the bottom of Collins and Sunnyside lifts on flat areas. Compared to Powder Mountain the day before, the lift lines were obviously longer, but really not too bad (five minutes once or twice, if that?), and nearly non-existent after lunch. I thought it would be a lot more crowded, so I was pleasantly surprised. The only place where slopes ever got “crowded” was at the bottleneck where Devil’s way, Sugar Bowl, etc. converge below the Sugarloaf lift before the traffic splits up again to various other trails.

For us cruisers, another great bluebird day on the slopes. Not many photos as my group doesn’t wait and I try to catch up and my crappy camera is still acting up.
