Alta January 22

Denser snow today but plenty of it. The past few days have definitely put Alta over the top. All the traverses are great. And if you like to ski the runs as well, they are also great.

Expected Canyon opening was 8:30 this morning. In fact, it opened at 8:15. By the tie I ws driving up at 8:30, there was a line stretching back to the second light past the BCC road. Took about half an hour to crawl to the mouth of the canyon; the ride up the canyon was actually fairly fast and was at the Wildcat lot at 9:20. Didn't matter that we were late/ the lift didn't open until maybe 9:45.

Didn't head down until 4:50. The traffic was crawling on the main drag so jumped the bypass road. The road turned black after entry 1 and the speed picked up past that/ down in about half an hour. Thought about staying up there/ tomorrow won't be as easy...

Thanks for the update as I was stuck in the Salt Palace all day attending ORWM. The next three days, though, I'll get mine. Saturday and Sunday with the crew, Monday with ORWM homies. See you up there Skrad!

I'm guessing SUnday will be a total zoo.....

In my experience crowd estimates in LCC are typically dramatically overrated.

Today, both Big and Little are closed to private vehicles from noon till 5p due to "weather conditions and all parking lots are full".

I was thinking that it would be.

Got up at 5, left Sugar House at 5:15, and was at GMD by 5:50. Road closed at 6, interlodge at 6:45. Rested on the sofa (earplugs a great help). Ate breakfast at about 8 (more than 100 breakfast orders from the other early risers). Interlodge was lifted at about 8:30/ got out in time to get a second row spot. The usual suspects in the front row. Don't these people have a life?

When the lift opened, the first row went followed by an appreciable number of ski schoolers. I was surprised to see people crossing the High T before I made the angle station. Went straight for the Nest (which I had skied for the first time just yesterday) and had to contend with a few tracks for about 200' before I found a clean line down the rest of the way. It was an awesome run/ enough snow that you could pretty much point 'em and go as fast as you wanted.

I won't bore with more details/ stayed great all day.

Took off at 3:35 because of constitutional fatigue and fear of traffic. Drove down past all the cars parked along the road by Snowbird and wondered how bad the jam was going to be.
