So the Rapture never showed up the other day but guess what did? Another round of snow for the Wasatch. This mornings storm deposited about 5-7" of snow above 8,000 feet. I'd have to estimate that Alta's year to date snow total is about 785", that's just incredible!

I'm also getting the feeling that most people are over the snow here in Utah. Today was the first time I've ever had to put in a skin track at Alta from top to bottom and I got there at 11 am. It was a really awesome feeling knowing that I had the entire mountain to myself. For those of you that ski Alta, well you know that's a pretty rare occurrence.

Originally, the weather was supposed to warm up for the Holiday weekend but now it looks as if there will be two more opportunities for snow this week. A quick shot on Thursday not much in the way of accumulations and then another more promising chance over the second half of the weekend.

Nice video. skiing looks fantastic. Hard to believe it is almost June 1. I'm still amazed by the quality of the video shot by the cam on the end of the pole but it looks uncomfortable to ski that way.

The past 3 Aprils rank 1, 2 and 3 in snowfall among the 44 years of data I have for Alta. It is possible that the past 2 Mays are #1 and #2.

It is uncomfortable, I usually get some turns in during the day and then either one run top to bottom I put the camera on the pole. I surely don't do it all day long as it would destroy the skiing experience. I've just found that method to be best while skiing solo. I usually like shooting other skiers better with a hand held HD camera but finding ski partners in late May can be kind of difficult.

Tony are you able to get official figures from Alta during the month of May? I'm wondering how far off my estimate is.

I do not count or attempt to collect snowfall data past April 30 except for the handful of areas that consistently run lifts most or all of May. In the case of Snowbird I only have 5 years of May data.
