Days 10 & 11: Cold & stiff

No, not a body...the snow. Saturday was cloudy with flat light, low visibility, and light occasional flurry activity that resulted in no more than a trace. West Rustler was a huge mistake -- enough cover, just not the right consistency. Most of the day was therefore stuck on groomers where you were often skiing by braille. Danged cold.

Today the sun was blazing and it felt considerably warmer as a result. We spent most of the day on Supreme, including a trip out Catherine's and a Backside with Skidog. Before lunch the two of us headed over to Snowbird for a couple of runs in Mineral Basin, where the occasional rock or two lurked just beneath the surface. At 12:30 The Wife called and I paid some spousal collateral to be cashed in later on a powder day.

A few photos from Sunday:

Yesterdays weather was beautiful.....

Good day...short, but good..

I too went home for some "spousal collateral"

M

I missed Saturday to build some "spousal collateral" also (I like that term!). On the other hand, Sunday was beautiful. As a lazy retiree, I only got up to Snowbird around 11 AM. I went right over into Mineral Basin. While it was very tracked out in most places, the snow was pretty soft where the sun had been working on it. It definitely needs another dump to cover some rocks. After a few warm-up runs I met a nice "young" (twenty-something) snowboarder on the lifts and spent about three hours making runs with him while trying not to accidentally follow him over some of his favorite jumps. I enjoy meeting people, and following someone down since have a tendency to stop and "smell the roses" too often when I am not chasing someone. We finished up a little after three and stopped for a beer on the way down to the parking lot. Another beautiful day in the Wasatch...Life is Good!

I was at Snowbird on Saturday. Visibility at the peak was about 15 yards :( I should have waited and went Sunday.

It was still fun though :)

Given the current state of Utah skiing vs. usual standards, I would have only skied Sunday of the past 2 weekends and built the "spousal collateral" on both Saturdays.
