Day 20: A day and a half makes a difference.
I didn't get started until noon today.
Last night I took my 82-year-old mother who's visiting from Connecticut downtown to see a Christmas pops concert from the Utah Symphony Orchestra. What I didn't think about, however, was that Abravenel Hall, where the USO plays, is right next to Temple Square where every Utah resident was going to see the Christmas lights.
A total crap show, traffic and parking-wise. But the show truly got me finally into the Christmas spirit.
My wife, however, had to make a 12-hour one-day round-trip drive to Vegas, which meant that she didn't get home until 2 a.m. Which meant that she had to unwind and get ready for bed until 3 a.m., whereafter she turned on the bedroom TV to unwind further. When my alarm went off at 7 a.m. I had about 3 hours of sleep.
I dismissed the alarm, texted AmyZ to tell her that I wasn't going to make it by 9 and went back to sleep. I got up at 10.
Today was warm, which allowed the snow to soften a bit before I got there, so it wasn't the stiff sastrugi that I skied yesterday. AmyZ, Bobby and I met up with "The Other Jon," Theresa and Becca for lunch at GMD and we headed out thereafter for a few hours. Extrovert was smooth and chalky, as was Hyena Ridge and Whoopsie's after we ventured over to Snowbird for a few runs. Got to ski Mineral for my first time this season, and also get my first ride on the new Little Cloud HSQ.
It was a good day, but tomorrow should be another powder day. As we headed home the wind was picking up and the clouds moving in ahead of our next storm system.
