That's what I was thinking. This is similar to rfarren's "Alta's tickets are *only* $50!" claim... "only" off by 30%.

Admin will have to school him in the art of fact checking.

Wouldn't that be similar to and just as frustrating as trying to get departed icelanticskier to admit that 38F and rain followed by -5F doesn't leave powder?

In my defense: I admitted the mistake about Alta. I really thought their tickets were under $60. At least they were last year. Again, for some reason I remember in 2005 the lift tickets were like $48. I could be wrong, and would love to know exactly what they were during the last 3 years. That being said. The cover of the Daily News today: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/galleri ... pages.html

"Tragic End", "Brain Dead"

For all intensive purposes Brain Dead is dead.

Nope. $60 last season.

That phrase makes no sense, either logically or grammatically. The correct phrase is "for all intents and purposes".

Refill was under $60.

Yep, you're right, but I prefer Admin's more tactful approach to my error:

That's "for all intents and purposes." Sorry to pick on you, but that's a pet peeve of mine, along with the misuse of "nauseous" instead of "nauseated."

On a lighter note, is it possible that one of you could post the prices for Alta daily lift tickets since 2005.

For all intensive purposes they've been at or around $60.

Admin, I can't find historical lift ticket prices, but I remember that in 2006 single lift tickets were right around $50. Then I remember in 2007 the tickets were like $56. Is there a place that one could find these exact numbers.

I was, of course, busting stones. However, Google is your friend -- or, just go to Alta's website and look it up:

2008-09: $64 (via http://www.alta.com/documents/pressdocs ... ates08.doc)
2007-08: $59 (via http://www.alta.com/documents/pressdocs ... ates07.doc)
2006-07: $52 (via http://www.alta.com/documents/pressdocs ... ates06.pdf)
2005-06: $49 (via http://www.alta.com/documents/pressdocs ... ates05.doc)

Prices have risen steadily and rather steeply over that period. For the past two seasons, however, there's been a reload price for $5 less once you have the RFID ticket.

Last year when I went out twice I saved my card, so I got the reload price 9 days out of 10. I knew I wasn't crazy, I remembered the ticket prices around $50.

They really have raised the prices dramatically though! The first time I had to pay for my own ski vacation I went to Alta in large part because the lift tickets were only $49 whereas Snowbird was like $68. IMHO it was the best deal in the country. Last year with the reload price it was still reasonable, but now it's starting to get up there. :x Nonetheless, it is still probably the best deal in the country, although the chairs only snowbird deal is making a run for that title.

Snowbird Chairs-only is $62, which is $3 more than Alta's reload price.

Nice, you post about a tragic accident, then get distracted.

How about a little respect for the brain dead?
:-$

Again James, you make me laugh out loud!

It's getting closer every year...that is, as long as Alta continues it's steep rise in prices.

I'd hardly define an average of $2.50/season as a steep increase.

With the refill price it's an increase of $2.50, without $3.75. Either way, I would suspect that the increase in price has gone up faster in comparison to the national rate of inflation. That being said I could also be getting cheaper as I get older. :)
