Another busted storm. Alta was reporting 6" of new as of 5 a.m., and there were probably a few inches more heavy, wet snow by the time the lifts started spinning at 9:15. It was probably a good thing that the snow was so heavy, for it prevented punching through to the base underneath.
Liftlines user Patrick is in town, and we did our best to tear up the new snow on a grand tour. Face shots were had in an untracked Fred's Trees on first run (odd the way that the new snow, probably due to its weight, produced face shots despite a rather average depth), and we found more completely untracked snow just outside the boundary in Catherine's. Other spots visited included Spiny Chutes, Supreme Bowl, Yellow Trail and Backside, Baldy Shoulder (Harold's), Eagle's Nest, Cabin Hill, and Wildcat. Partway through the day we picked up a solo straggler and Jay Peak condo owner named Tom on the Collins lift, who was visiting from Cape Cod and tagged along for about 4 runs.
It was an odd day -- at times clouds produced whiteout visibility, while at other moments deep blue sky hung overhead. But it was all good.
