Honestly, today was a blast! We were able to ski a surprising percentage of the ski area, and some places that didn't open last year until mid-January, like the High Traverse, were open from the start today. And while there were a decent number of people there, they were so spread out on the hill today that it felt empty. Collins, Wildcat, Sugarloaf and Sunnyside were all running, and about the only thing closed off of those lifts was Backside proper/Yellow Trail. If it could be reached via the High T or the Baldy Shoulder Traverse it was fair game.
AmyZ and I hooked up with mbaydala and some of his Park City friends at the opening. First run in Ballroom was smooth, untracked and glorious, and we thereafter moved over to Wildcat to work that for a bit, finishing up with a couple of trips down Thirds via a traverse in from Piss Pass. By 12:30 p.m. I was spent and with two more days left in this weekend we quit for the day.
It was like old home week up there, bumping into skiers and employees whom we've come to know over the years. I just took a couple of cell phone shots as the weather -- mostly cloudy with a stray flurry blowing through every now and then -- wasn't terribly conducive to taking photos. Mbaydala, though, shot video that should show up in this thread later on.
Here's a map of our day:
