Day 3.
I had to head up for opening day, it's a tradition. The weather, however, was gloomy ahead of the approaching storm, blustery and grey. On top of that I normally use my phone as my alarm clock and bricked it on Thursday morning through a bad OS upgrade, so I overslept, too. I only skied a couple of runs.
Bobby Danger and Skidog were leaving just as I was arriving. Bobby had to get to work but Skidog stuck around to join me. Much like at Solitude last weekend, Alta was letting us wander and first run was a Race Course to the Saddle->Saddle Traverse->Stonecrusher->Lone Pine. That was much better than I'd imagine as the gullies were filled with stiff wind-affected snow, sastrugi-like in some places and wind slab in others.
I really didn't take many pictures as it wasn't a very photogenic day, but I did get one of Collins Gulch to show the snow pack and one of South Chute where Jamie Pierre perished last Sunday.
