Day 3: Happy New Year!
I love opening day at Alta. It's like a homecoming, and everywhere you turn you see friends and familiar faces, employees and fellow pass holders alike, including mbaydala. My day started out with a big bear hug from Colin, the parking lot attendant, and continued that way throughout the day. Hugs all over the place, with the others from ladies much prettier than Colin. \

Bobby Danger, AmyZ, Skidog, Corey, and Ty also made it up for a few hours. I'm not sure what happened to jojo_obrien, but I'll be curious to hear, and somewhere along the way we accidentally lost Ty.
We're off to a pretty decent start this season. Collins, Wildcat, Sugarloaf and Sunnyside lifts were all running. They let us have everything off Wildcat and most of the terrain off Collins, save for Ballroom (avalanche risk) and the High T, although Race Hill, Spruce Forest, Liftline and Fred's Trees were all open. I sure wish that they left us have Backside, but that will have to wait.
Base depths are currently around 35 inches. Most people stuck to the groomers, although if you were careful there was no reason to. As a result, there was plenty of elbow room.
Although the Wildcat lot was about 90% full I never waited more than two or three chairs today.
It felt good to be home again! My legs willing, I'll be there a bunch over the next 10 days, along with perhaps Snowbird and the Park City resorts if they can get more open (Snowbird is only running Gadzoom right now with one manmade run down Big Emma, and Park City Mountain opens tomorrow with Payday, 3 Kings and First Time. I'm not sure what Canyons will have ready by the 27th.)
