More face shots today! It continued to snow throughout the night. As of 6am, Alta was reporting 25 new in 24 hours, and it continued to snow hard the whole time I was up there. That makes 32" storm total through 6am today. Alta is now reporting 85% of its terrain open on a base depth of over 40 inches. We're expecting two more systems between now and Friday, too!
I was skiing with Bob Dangerous again today. Once again, I quit after only a few runs as my dogs, they were a-barkin'. Being a desk jockey does nothing to prepare you for ski season, especially one that starts off with two thigh-deep days in a row.
Things were much busier today, for every local who heard what they'd missed yesterday showed up today. On top of that, they were at first only loading two per chair on Collins to lighten the early season traffic, although they eventually bumped that up to 3 per chair. I still managed to log 6,407 verts over 3 Collins runs between 9:30 and 11:45, and nearly all of those were in thigh-deep.
First run was into Liftline trees, which despite a windblown sketchy spot or two near the top were positively divine. The second and third runs were out the High T to chutes in and around Christmas Tree. On both of those runs, the last around 11:30, Bob and I were each able to pick a totally untracked chute for ourselves. Amazing! Face shots, baby!
We bumped into two friends of Liftlines users in our first Collins lift queue of the day: Mark, friend of Kirbyvv, and Frank & son, friends of Sharon. We spent half a run with Frank & son, too, but he didn't want to follow us and risk his brand-new Stöcklis on an admittedly sketch High Traverse. Truth be told, though, it's already considerably better than yesterday.
Ya know, a guy could get spoiled like this!
No pics for you today. I only took one anyway, but the power is out at home here until 4:30, and I'm therefore forced to compose this on a wireless Palm device.
