Day 15: Surprisingly fun.
Holy cow, we had the whole world today. Neighbor Anant wanted to drive his new Mercedes 4WD Sprinter so I rode with him to Alta, where we met up with Bobby Danger, AmyZ, Corey, TheOtherAmy, Skidog, Telejon, Marc_C and his house guests Liz and Kerry from NJ.
Skiing was a blast, actually. On the groomers, Friday's new snow tilled in nicely, and the ungroomed stayed soft and fluffy. Both were topped by about a half inch of pixie dust that fell throughout the day. And ASP gave us some new terrain to explore: Baldy Shoulder. It was accessible either from the sidestep from hell off of Main Street (a sidestep reminiscent of the death march up East Castle), or a bootpack from the top of the Kitty. We opted for the latter.
A beautiful day for the season's first hike
I'm not used to looking back at Bobby on a hike!
Corey (L) and Anant atop Armpit
Technically it was already open when I was there on Friday, but there were still plenty of untracked lines thanks to the grunt work required to get there. The others skied Armpit proper, while I ducked into and out of the Tombstone trees lining the skier's right edge of Armpit in search of more untracked.
The adventure was so much fun that after lunch we opted for a different one that delivered more untracked goodness: High Boy to Rustler IV.
I pioneered this entrance to High Boy. Anant was dumb enough to follow.
We went until 2 p.m. I've gotta save some leg for Monday's storm, which is looking better and better each forecast day. \/
