Day 12: Ccccccccc...old!
Barely above zero, but beautiful. Bright, sunny, deep blue skies with 13" of new snow. Who am I to complain about the cold?
I planned to meet up with Skidog. But I'd forgotten that Marc_C has Kerry, Liz and Walt as houseguests from the East Coast. We actually had a mini midweek posse.
Being as cold as it was we headed straight for Sugarloaf to stay in the sunshine. We lapped this lift multiple times, finding pockets of untracked here and there, such as on lower Chartreuse Nose. Once Supreme opened at 11, however, Skidog and I high-tailed it over there while we waited for patrol to finish control work on Backside.
We milked Supreme for all it was worth as they didn't groom anything over there. Patrol continued control work in Supreme Bowl, so we only had looker's right of the lift to play with. With Alta as deserted as it's been all year we got multiple laps through No. 9 trees and Baby Bear trees with nary a track to cross. They surprisingly opened the gate into Rock 'n Roll, which hadn't been groomed either.
We all met up at Alf's for lunch, still waiting for Patrol to finish control work on Backside. While waiting we found an upper gate open into Extrovert, which prompted Kerry to remark, "That alone was worth the plane fare right there." We then headed to Collins Gulch to ski tracked powder in Armpit. I finished the day in Eagle's Nest, still waiting for Backside to open...which was one run too many, for my legs were shot. I skied that like crap and left at 2:30.
