Day 13: Oh, hell yeah! Now that's what I'm talking about!

Another 30 inches of new snow overnight, and impeccable timing on openings. It just doesn't get any better.

I didn't get up there until 12:30, as work got in the way this morning. No matter, though, for Supreme opened around 1 p.m. On the first run off Supreme the Patrol had hinted that the lower gate into Supreme Bowl was open, so we buzzed down Challenger to the gate and...closed. Pissed off, but still satisfied we hit White Squaw instead. Great stuff!

On the second ride up, though, we spotted a patroller opening the top gate into Supreme Bowl for the very first time this season! Only five others passed through the gate ahead of us, and all five traversed right into Spiny Chutes. We, of course, went left instead, where we scored absolute first tracks all the way down through Calf Rope (what I've always called Supreme Nose -- I finally learned the Patrol name for it today) to the flats at the bottom of Supreme. Completely untracked, completely divine.

We just kept lapping Supreme all the way to the end of the day. Skidog had been there since 9:30, so he cut out around 3:10. Pat and I kept going, riding Sugarloaf around 3:45 only to find the Germ Return closed due to the avi hazard on East Baldy. We thus skied all the way down to the transfer tow to head for a pitcher at GMD at 4 pm.

Tomorrow will be another good one, as Backside, Ballroom, Baldy Shoulder and Catherine's remained closed all day due to avi risk. They'll surely open tomorrow, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Devil's Castle come online soon, too. I, unfortunately, won't be able to get there until 11 a.m. at the earliest due to other obligations. Maybe, though, I'll get just as lucky with rope drops tomorrow.

Great Stuff! Couldn't get out. With company coming in on Sunday (TP Jr. and wife) I had to make a major deposit into the "spousal collateral" account

Sigh. Peter, the spousal collateral account is expressly for big powder days like Friday. 8)

Driest November in Utah in 31 years, and Alta still looks like this before Christmas. It's a tough life.

Yeah, it sucks to be me. It's just one more example of why I've never looked in the rear view mirror once since pulling into town 4 seasons ago.

I just arrived at GMD, checking email while waiting to meet up with the gang. I'm booted up and ready to head for Catherine's after lunch. Another 6" is in the forecast with another more significant storm on tap for Monday night.

Very true for most of us peons. But in LCC chances are you'll get another shot within a week or so.

That's what I am counting on! :D I look forward to spending some slope time with my oldest son who lives in San Diego. If we get a powder day, it would just be a bonus on top of seeing him enjoy our mountains. The first time I skied UT was in the winter of 99/00 and that was with my son Peter. After four days of joy, I speculated that "this might be the place" to spend some retirement years. So, here I am!

True, we'll get another shot at powder, in this case, well within a week, but powder here, when you're a local, isn't all that difficult. But big powder days - 36" or more - are just as elusive as anywhere else and you've got to nail them when they occur, not a day later to build "spousal collateral", whatever the hell that is. (Really, if you're a skier, and your spouse isn't, and you moved here, because of the skiing, and they agreed, and you still feel the need for a "spousal collateral account", it's long past time for a serious discussion; obviously something wasn't quite fully understood at decision time.)

[Written from an admittedly grumpy perspective as I'm off skis for probably at least the next 2 weeks. Depends on what my doctor says on Monday. Oh. Lookie. Time for another Darvocet. G'night Gracie.]

Hey, I resemble that remark!

Geez, Call outs and now this. Admin should create a Padded Room for these types of subject. Relationships/Marital/Non-skiing partner Issues have really been big on TGR lately.
