Day 20: Dakine.

Storm total 48", the last 18" of which was 4% Utah blower -- and it's still snowing. Hip deep. Over-the-head face shots that would last for two or three turns at a time. Total white room. OMFG.

I worked a little late last night and started a little early this morning to get a quick 10,000 verts at the opening bell today. Of course, everyone else who lives in the Salt Lake Valley had the same idea. UDOT needs to get their collective heads out of their ass and re-time the light cycle at the corner of Wasatch and LCC Road, by the La Caille sign. They're obviously trying to regulate traffic heading up canyon using that last traffic light, but you've got to let more than 3 or 4 cars through at a time on a green. And the red is agonizingly long. That stacked up traffic on Wasatch well past the swamp lot at 3500 E. If they don't do anything before the Christmas week visitors arrive that's going to become a total cluster. Once past that, there was only a slight delay at the UPD's 4x4/chain checkpoint and traffic slowly headed uphill thereafter.

As a result, I didn't pull into the lot until 9:05 and the other boys -- Skidog, Tele Jon and Dale -- were already in line. I hopped into the singles line at the same time as Skrad, who was also lamenting the traffic situation.

It took two runs -- one Race Hill to the Tower 10 Traverse to lower West Rust, and another out the High T to just beyond Sunspot Ridge to Tower 10 Traverse to West Rust -- before I caught up with the others. The Collins line evaporated after opening and was no more than a minute or two thereafter. Greeley Hill just wasn't steep enough, even with my S7s or Jon's Megawatts, and you'd simply grind to a halt. North Rustler, however, was absolutely untracked amazing.

Skrad and I pretty much remained on the same cycle and he joined us on our last run, which was out the Instructor's Traverse into Backside which had just opened. Untracked Yellow Trail felt good but paled by comparison to Susie's Trees, which were absolutely, hands down the best run of the year thus far. Like I said above, over the head untracked goodness. Get a good look down the hill for you might not see it again until two or three turns later. Absolute blower.

And here I am back at work eating through my lunch break. They're calling for still another foot or two before this winds down on Thursday, but we're at 211" YTD and base is now over 100".

I'll confess that I'm thinking about it too. I'll have to see how much I can accomplish this afternoon.

Yeah, it would've been had we any inclination to slow down long enough to set up a shot.
