Day 20: Ho-hum, another sleeper powder day.
I really didn't expect half of what we got today, but the wind was on auto-groom all night and smoothed out that 9" of graupel from Sunday, and we picked up another inch or so overnight. Bumps and old tracks magically disappeared. It was wonderful! It's always nice when expectations are substantially exceeded.
I was with Skidog and jojo_obrien for much of the day, until somewhere along the way we lost jojo, not once but twice (that boy needs to pay closer attention!) and we picked up mbaydala to replace him.
We spent the morning on Wildcat as the bulk of today's traffic rode Collins even though there was almost nothing to ski off that lift worth skiing as virtually everything through a gate was closed. About 11:30 a.m. ASP finally got over their jitters from yesterday's event and opened the High T. Skidog and I ripped a completely untracked Watson Line/Christmas Tree combo, and then went back for two helpings of Greeley Bowl/Greeley Hill/North Rustler before calling it a day shortly before 1 p.m. so I could come home and get this house ready for tonight's ski orphans' party. Greeley Bowl in particular was the perfect consistency for huge, untracked arcs as fast as you wanted to go. AmyZ arrived right as I was leaving and I suspect that Bobby D wasn't far behind her.
Merry Christmas to all of our faithful readers!
