Day 25: Groomer goodness.
I joined Skidog for a couple of hours this morning at Alta. One run on Harold's, however, was enough to convince me that yesterday's measley couple of inches wasn't enough to smooth things out. Other than that we stuck to the groomers, and had fun.
You could hit them at Mach 3 today because even though it's Christmas week, there was no one there. It was an eerie quiet. Downright strange. Ski-on lifts all day. In fact, the only line I saw was about 5 minutes for Collins as I returned to GMD at quitting time.
Things were groomed that I don't normally see groomed. They knocked down both No. 9 Express and Challenger. They did both Collins Face and Schuss Gully -- they usually do one or the other, not both. And I've never before seen them run a cat down a favorite line of mine between upper Main Street and the first loop of Mambo.
Firm and fast suited my skis just fine thanks to an exceptional overnight tune at the ski shop in Peruvian Lodge. Thanks, Andy! I figured that I'm done hitting any major rockage this winter. First-rate work. I recommend them highly.
Things should be light and deep soon enough, however, thanks to 3 feet of cold smoke predicted for Wednesday into Thursday.
