"May I have some gravy with my mashed potatoes?"

OK, that wasn't my line...it was Marc_C's, but I can't think of much that's more appropriate. We got a late start as it made little sense to go up there any earlier than we did, and it was 42 degrees F when we pulled into the Wildcat lot at 10:15. The kid and I boarded the Collins lift at 10:30 with Marc_C, his friend Jim, and Jim's 18 year-old son Thomas. With the warm, manky snow down low our goal for the day was to stay high. We therefore sped down a groomed Devil's Elbow and headed straight for Supreme.

Crowds were heavy, as should be expected for the holidays, but nothing compared to yesterday. A detour into No. 9 trees to test the waters proved that up high, the snow was heavy but still skied surprisingly well. We then headed out Catherine's for untracked, which held a warm crust from the air temps as well as what had been a blasting wind, but that still skied well, too, although it got heavier and heavier as we went lower. Thomas entertained near the bottom, as he straight-ran the crust for about 100 vertical feet before hitting a road cut across the slope and exploded.

An experiment into Noodle on East Greeley was a mistake, as it really got manky and rotten near the bottom, but Baldy Shoulder still held the goods where it had been skied.

All of this is a non-issue starting tonight, however:
