Heard it was sick at Alta today. 9500ft in the Cottonwoods received about 14", but it always feels like more there. I was over doing laps in low angle bc in Big cottonwood. It was real nice, and the low density of the powder made it nicer. More on the way later tonight and tomorrow, Sunday should be another good one. Thank goodness for the lake.

It was sick at Alta yesterday. 9 more inches fell since we left there.

Here's my report:

Greatest Snow on Earth!

The best skiing in the continental US hands down. You'd be
hard-pressed to top Alta anywhere else Dec 3rd, 2005. I have no
doubt that the timing was excellent for a whirlwind Wasatch weekend.

Dumped all day today. Thigh deep pow pow, face shots, yeehaws,
new friends, old friends, smiles all around, pure bliss, powder pig
heaven. Best day of the year. Even Frank who has already skied nearly
a dozen days at Alta this season said it was getting greater each day
this week and today was by far the best day. It is still dumping up there
and tomorrow looks promising to top today.

Marc (dear editor), Marc Chrusch, Frank, Jordy, Amy, Bob Dangerous, Dale and myself were the powder posse, sniffing out fresh lines all over Alta. They
opened Supreme for the first time of the season. There was plenty of
untracked fresh snow in the late morning. After lunch we headed back
towards Wildcat and found some really deep snow on the west side of
the mountain. Repeated that run before our tired bodies called it quits.
I didn't want it to end, but it was good that the group consensus was to
call it a day around 2:40. I'm not too sore, just very tired. had I skied
longer, I could have overdone it. Frank, Jordy and I began our day
when the lifts started turning. By our 2nd run we grouped up with the
Marcs and the rest of the gang. Really fun people to ski with, and Bob
took us to some sweet spots and showed us some nice lines. Tmrw
the powder posse will meet at the same time, same place, to rip it up
again.

Some of us celebrated the day in front of the fire at the Goldminer's
Daughter sipping amber ale. When we heard the road was closed for
an hour for snow removal, we ordered food and watched the line of
cars not moving. It took us over an hour to get out of the canyon due to
the snow and very slow-moving traffic. Roads were treacherous and
traffic diverted away from the avalanche area added to the trip down
the canyon.

Another foot expected tonite/tmrw, so conditions will be as good, if not
better tmrw.
ay night, so I was given a voucher to
rent skis. They would only rent me last year's demos, as the new skis
don't go out until after Xmas. I got a pair of Volkl 724 pro. While they
weren't as floaty as my Pocket Rockets in the deep pow, they turned
nicely and were quite stable. I would consider that ski for all-mtn
skiing in the east. It did well in the powder and was quite lively. I can
buy the last year's demo's for $300. I'm considering it. Would be a nice
ski to have in my quiver. My Pocket Rockets arrived today at 7pm. I am
very pscyhed to use them tmrw.

Best photo-moment of the day was the look on Guido's face when he found himself digging his way out of a tree well. Unfortunately Frank didn't have a camera to capture the moment. He was the closest to the scene of humiliation.

That's actually what's going to keep me off the hill today. I stepped out of a heelpiece prematurely, then tried to keep it together but failed. Tweaked my left knee a bit in the process. It's not very skiable today.

More photos are still to follow -- I've been tied up with other committments -- but I'll let Sharon's report stand as the "full" report.

OK, a few more pics from yesterday, taken with a real camera (Marc_C is always hassling me to add more pictures of people!):

Now that's some permagrin.8)

It dawned on him right after I took the shot: "Hey! You got my side that's missing a tooth!"

Marc...that's actually an ok quality photo from your cell phone. I'm surprised it can blow it up that large and still be able to make it out fairly well. Plus, i'm sure the wind and falling snow didn't help. I bet on a sunny day the quality would be pretty good. Cool.

It's a 1.3 Mp (PalmOne Treo 650), but I've found that it's easily fooled by tricky or low light. And it compresses the hell out of images.
