Day 42: The change is near...thank God!
I ran up to Alta at lunch time today for 4 quick runs with Marc_C, Sharon, and Sharon's friends Pam and Amy. We all met at Goldminer's Daughter and headed up Collins.
"Firm and fast" were the keywords today. I'm guessing that north-facing steeps like High Rustler and Eagle's Nest held much better snow than we were skiing today, but none of us felt compelled to brave the rocky High T to get to them. As a result, we skied one run down Fred's Trees to the angle station, one cruiser down Devil's Elbow/Roller Coaster, one exploration through the trees to the right of Gravy Boat, then across Devil's Elbow and out the Cecret Saddle gate and down through Cabin Hill, then finally one more run in Collins Gulch, this time a Ballroom/trees-to-the-left-of-Spring-Valley combo.
I wasn't shedding any tears at having to return to work, but a stiff southwesterly breeze and thickening storm clouds to the west signalled the change that's a-comin'. We're looking at a series of wet low pressure waves over the coming days, with some light snow tomorrow, then a stronger system for Sunday into Monday. Woo-hoo!! It's about time, baby!
No pix, it just wasn't a pretty day with the thickening overcast. Total time 1:28.06 (including some time spent getting ready), 4 runs, 5580 vertical feet...none of it powder.
