Day 38: We made it.
A storm total of 4" meant that we stayed out of the record books and avoided the dubious distinction of earning the lowest February snowfall in 70 years at Alta. That 4" was extraordinarily light, but it somehow softened the base beneath on many aspects and led to some very pleasant skiing yesterday.
Bobby Danger, AmyZ, Telejon, TheOtherAmy and I were joined by Tiny Tim, who ventured over from Park City to meet up with a buddy of his from high school who was staying at Snowbird on a guys' trip. We found untracked and lightly tracked throughout the day, and Tim and his friend were both smiling broadly throughout the day. The snow in Albion Gully even felt bottomless.
It was yet another very busy day with the Canyon filled nearly to capacity. We snuck off to Rustler Lodge for lunch to avoid the crowds, and by the time we paid our check the dining room was as filled as I've ever seen it. Despite the below-average conditions, business continues to stack up in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
The Wasatch Mountains are presently under a Winter Weather Advisory with up to 20", or perhaps more in areas favored by northwest flow like the Cottonwoods through tomorrow afternoon. Despite my work load I've already gone ahead and scheduled a mental health day for tomorrow.
