Day 43: Another great one.

Alta picked up another 6 inches or so last night of the fluffiest, lightest, driest stuff...maybe 3-4% by my guess. Pure pixie dust. This provided the perfect gliding surface atop what had been skied up yesterday, but even better, we (Skidog, Marc_C, Pat, Tele Jon, Courtney visiting from San Diego and yours truly) found a stash that hadn't yet been skied since before this 30-inch storm cycle began!

We obviously just lapped this up until I had to leave at noon for an airport pickup. Not quite sure where the gang headed thereafter. Tirolerpeter was just arriving as I was leaving.

We lapped through that "area" about 3 more times then just ONE MORE to the road. This time we went through the Bob D way, NOT the Admin way

Jon, Pat and I split. Marc and Courtney I think we're going to grab a bite and continue to ski.

Another great day in Zion.... :D

Gee, what are you trying to say?

I knew the "other" way in, but was convinced that there had to be a more direct route that would bring us in a bit higher and to skier's left of where we ended up starting our run. Un-uh. Found one chute that was mandatory straight-line for 100 feet into dense evergreens  and other than that it was just a huge rock buttress to negotiate. Eventually we ended up sidestepping over 20 feet of solid, jagged granite covered with about an inch and a half of fluff...just to come out precisely where the easy way in would have brought us.

Seriously, though, this weekend's exploration was fun and added to my little bag of tricks few things that were previously unknown to me.

The experience of doing and learning the lay of the land in all conditions are absolutely key. There are no local guides or area 'masters' without it IMHO. That said, sounds like a fun beeline option into the woods

Unsettled weather persists through the week with a cold front arriving Wednesday night into Thursday. Models are a little shaky on many of the details later in the week and into next, but I’m leaning toward enough snow to push some season totals past 600” for the year.

Actually, we didn't (grab a bite) and did (continue to ski). We called and found the rest of our crew doing Supreme laps, so we got there to meet up with them via Razor Back and the lower Cecret gate. Courtney was pretty toasted from the morning - I heard some comments along the lines of "the crazy locals tried to kill me" but there was also a perma-grin and talk of how much of a bummer it will be to go back to Stowe next weekend and how she has to find a way to move here.

So one run off Supreme, hooking up Baby Bear to Infantile Bear to the White Squaw chutes; Sugarloaf up to traverse over to Collins, and finished with a Fred's Trees - Saddle Traverse - Kinmont's Bump gate off Lower Sunspot - Watson Trees - Pinball Alley.

And then there was today.......
