Day 69: More powder.
With yesterday's 10" of new snow none of Alta's gated areas opened, including Ballroom/Baldy Shoulder and Backside. Last night's temperatures were cold and the weather didn't break Friday until 4:30 pm, so the quality stayed good even though it's late March. So it was positively serendipitous that we arrived atop Collins today just as ASP was turning around the "Backside closed" sign.
This was the end result:
I don't need to tell you that it rocked.
We were in a big group today, including Bobby Danger, Dale, Pat, Pat's friend Colleen, Telejon and Amy. And we kept scoring the goods all day. Jon and Bobby ventured over to Snowbird in the morning, finding untracked in the area of the Sugar Cliffs, but things were much more crowded over there (Wildcat Lot, for example, never filled while at Snowbird they were parked all along Little Cottonwood Canyon Road for the length of the resort). We used our best devices to score untracked lines all the way to 3 pm.
After lunch Pat convinced Colleen to try my S7s, so I spent the afternoon on tiny little 170cm women's Rossi Scratch BC's adorned with high heels, pink flowers and mermaids. It took all I had to maintain my confidence in my own masculinity.
Tomorrow, though, is Snowbasin with Telejon and Bobby Danger. With any luck tonight's system will drop another foot of new to enjoy tomorrow.
