Day 54: Hey, I took one run, so it counts.

Waited all morning for things to soften, so I didn't even leave the house until noon. The place was absolutely deserted with a stiff breeze under a moderate overcast. Skied one run on Mambo and called it a day. As The Other Bobby D described it, it was "an icy Vermont day." The only thing to soften was the Collins liftline.

Had a bowl of chili and we all went home.

I know that you won't go there without your crew, but is PCMR in better spring shape?

I will, and have in the past, but I doubt it. We need either softening conditions or tomorrow's next storm.

I meant that based on your TRs, you usually hang out with your group on weekends. It's must be tough being a ski celebrity -- living in a fishbowl with everyone second-guessing your every move.

Now that's funny!

...and that's true.

For me, skiing is as much a social experience as an athletic or aesthetic one. I therefore would much rather suffer lesser conditions to spend time skiing with my friends. However, I don't think that it would have made much if any difference today. It was quite warm in LCC today, but the overcast and stiff wind was keeping anything from softening, and that same breeze and cloud cover was present today on the Wasatch Back.

four runs with amy and the other bob d and tele jon at alta early in the morning no softening on the hill at all . the four of us jumped in two vehicles down to snowbird !! a bit softer at snowbird cause of elevation drop but only the last two hundred vert. the rest of the place as firm as alta - except for macaroni chute- silver fox- bass benches were blown completely smooth by snow being blown in from upper baldy bowl (beautiful two runs out there) - and great scott very soft and very exceptable skiing but not like bass benches. back to alta for lunch some time after 1:00 p.m. somewhat of a short day for me but thats fine more snow this week ..

Guess I picked the right time to leave as well!!

It was a good time to "get out of Dodge" Ira. I met Bobby D and Admin at GMD then went out to do a run myself. Same results...I packed up and went home. Maybe the storm tomorrow will dress things up a bit. I certainly hope so.

Thanks to a warmup Wednesday, Mammoth Snowman reported similar conditions at Mammoth on Friday (presumably same over the weekend): stay on the groomers mid and lower mountain. Some of the upper steeps retained packed powder. But there's 20 inches new this morning, presumably on its way to LCC soon.
