Day 55: Aaahhhh, spring! 8)
This was the kind of day you wait all winter for. What Tele Jon refers to as a "social day". Blue skies, warm^h^h^h^h hot weather, good friends.
Hard to believe, but Patricia skied from 9:30 to 3:30. This is a gal who normally skis three runs, goes for a coffee and calls it a day. We got her out on some K2 Burnin Luv demos, and after trying some Tough Luvs, too, we went back and I bought her the Burnin Luv demos. They were only mounted a few weeks ago and they're basically brand-spankin' new. Patricia now has a whole new lease on skiing. We're now talking about heading to Whistler in 3 weeks.
Pat and Amy were demoing skis today, too. Jon and Tirolerpeter spent most of the day cruising with us, along with Val, and it's the first time I've skied with Val all winter. Bob Dangerous was present, of course, although he spent some runs over at the Bird before and right after lunch. Skidog was apparently in the dog house and couldn't get a hall pass from the missus.
The day started out firm and fast, but quickly softened under the strong April sun, turning to sticky mank by the end of the day. Did it matter? Not at all. We returned to the Watson Shelter deck for a leisurely lunch in the sun. We hung out at both the Watson Beach and at Albion. All bars stopped serving at 3 (I'm guessing they wanted to keep the pre-closing day festivities down to a dull roar) so we ran down to General Grit's at Snowbird to pick up beer and munchies, and sat on the GMD patio until 6 pm watching the crazies descend High Boy from the party along with a couple of friendly locals we met on the chair earlier in the day. It's amazing how popular you can be when you show up with two six-packs after the bars close.
With this week's snowfall, settled mid-mountain snow depths are back to 165 inches. It seems a shame to close with a 165-inch base.
Life, in short, is good.
