Day 57: Another Alta season is in the bag.

I didn't arrive until 11:30 a.m. today to give things time to soften, and I was about an hour or two too early. Regardless, the party atmosphere was already in full, uh..."swing."

I can't possibly name all the people I skied with today. It was a non-stop ebb and flow of folks, including a number of Mad River visitors including Colin and ski school director Terry. Things gradually softened and we made the best of it, concluding with our traditional end of the season parking lot BBQ which was more subdued than normal, but nonetheless a blast. I'll just provide a collection of photos to chronicle the day.

Compliments to Marc_C for his gorgonzola burgers with carmelized onions, which were far superior to the store-bought angus burgers I brought, as well as his exceptional margaritas. Thanks, too, to Tirolerpeter for the Austrian-style Bratwurst for lunch to accompany my beer. The ribs from Sam's group literally fell off the bone. Hats off to Hilary, Kelsey, Karen, Stephan, et al for joining us for the BBQ even though they didn't ski today. Liftie Jesse was wandering the crowd as we were packing up, and I sent him on his way with a couple of "liftie treats."

As always, it's a shame to close with that much snow on the ground. Now, however, the Snowbird spring season begins. Besides that, things will only improve at Alta in the coming weeks as the sun works its magic. Thank you, Alta, for another typically amazing season.

as the sun works it's magic and we get more dumps . now things will move to a more pure level of skiing. the corn on west rustler was outstanding this afternoon . thank whoever for the sun today cause if it were cloudy that would have never happened today. it really wasn't that warm up there today cold front moved through last night and early this morning slowing the thawing cycle this morning. i was on the nine a.m. tram to the summit of hidden peak maybe twenty five plus an operator. right into mineral basin via cham. one back country gate out to sugar cliffs all the way to the summit of baldy express chair three times (very short hike included two min. to reach the ridge ) . smooth and sweet to the base of m.b.e. chair . the only place i could find anything soft enough to ski other than groomers. the fourth trip around i dropped into alta via sugarloaf pass around east baldy traverse to the summit of collins chair and went right out yellow trail . all the way across east greely to the dividing ridge between east greely and high greely . drop the slot along the rope sweet corn to the flats. very much staying on east and south east exposures as much as possible for the first trip out ( needed maybe another twenty min. or so for proper softening to occure .) after that it was just a matter of hitting the regular corn spots in the afternoon . " ( i miss her already ) "
