Day 60: Now that's what I'm talking about!
I could sum up the entire day in that single photograph. But I won't.
The 8" of 11% graupel that fell overnight instantly transformed the place.
They never even bothered trying to get Backside or Ballroom/Baldy Shoulder open today. But it didn't matter, for although there were certainly more people than were there on Friday, there weren't enough to justify opening Wildcat. Although only Collins and Sunnyside were spinning, Collins was ski-on all day. And with the Sugarloaf corridor designated as "backcountry" we just kept lapping that area all morning, scoring honest-to-goodness untracked (as in "barely-cross-a-track-at-all" untracked) all the way to a 12:30 p.m. lunch time.
Even after lunch there was still more untracked to be had back there, but by that time the snow had turned to glop, clouds moved back in and it graupel started spitting from the sky once again. We all split.
And unfortunately, AmyZ got her MRI results today and the diagnosis is confirmed: a full ACL tear from the incident last Saturday. At least it happened at the end of the season, and she'll be fully rehabbed by the time next season starts.
We should have about another 10" for tomorrow's final day, and I'm liking what I'm seeing on radar right now.
Once again, you'll find us (weather permitting) at the far northwestern corner of the Wildcat parking lot at closing time for the annual par-tee. Bring the beverage of your choice, some meat to throw on the grill and a side dish to share. Any and all are welcome. Just look for my gold Tacoma with a Leer shell on the bed, walk on over and say "hello."
