Day 51: Last day for Supreme
There's something disconcertingly depressing about watching patrollers pulling rope lines and signage for the end of the season. Sunday was the last day of the year for the Supreme lift at Alta, and we tried to make the most of it yesterday.
Most of Saturday's cast of characters were back for more on Sunday. Amy stayed home, and Patricia did the same when the sunshine and warm temperatures originally forecast for Sunday degenerated into overcast and chilly (by April standards, anyway) with waves of snowfall blowing through. Bob Dangerous stuck around for most of the day, and Tele Jon, Patrick, Mira, Sima, Marc_C and Pat were all back. Skidog actually scored a hall pass and showed up, too.
Conditions inbounds were remarkably similar to Saturday's, with a few new inches atop the crunchy skied-up snow below. Our visitors loved it, but those of us who live here were less enamored with the snow. A first-run foray into Susie's Trees was ill-conceived, but Catherine's Area delivered yet again. Baldy Shoulder held good snow, and groomers were again fabulous as the new snow once again fell atop trails that had been groomed before the snowfall began.
Bob, Skidog and Tele Jon all wandered over to Snowbird on a "recon mission" before lunch, and we were all going to return after lunch until we realized that our visitors faced a $30 upgrade fee, which was pricier than we thought it was. One last trip down Stonecrusher in terrific snow at 3:45 was enough to finish me off, but the visitors milked the day for all it was worth, catching their last chair at 4:25 only to show up back at the base long after the lifts stopped spinning.
The day was capped by beers at Chez Guido before late-night sushi at Ichiban in SLC. Like I said about Saturday: great friends, great times.
