Day 91: The corn harvest

Powderqueen was in town for one day and wanted to ski so I headed up for a bit on Friday morning. I had hoped that the 5" that fell on Tuesday would have smoothed out the old tracks, that Thursday night would have gotten cold enough for the base to firm up, and that Friday morning would have been warm enough to soften the top layer. It all happened -- the perfect corn storm. And the place was practically deserted.

With the winter that won't end we've had very little opportunity to ski corn this season. And with Snowbird closed Monday through Thursday everything was perfectly smooth when we started the day on Friday after Powderqueen picked up her rentals.

We spent the entire morning on Mineral Basin Express alternating between Hyena Ridge, the Bookends and Chamonix 1/Ski Patrol Gully just to keep it interesting. And it stayed good, too, never getting mushy or manky in the slightest.

For our last run we headed out the Secret Traverse and booted up beneath Baldy Express to reach Sugarloaf Pass and head into Alta. We never saw another soul the whole time we were in Alta. We paused for a moment atop Harold's before dropping that run and skiing down Aggie's Alley to the Angle Station before returning to Snowbird via Blackjack.

During that rest stop on Baldy Shoulder at Alta we actually took shots of each other. Here's the one PDQ took of me:

I just grabbed some of PDQ's photos off of Picasa and being the vain SOB that I am I thought I'd add them here  :
