i'm a little late in posting this, but here is a report from the past week up in whistler...
the first two weeks in april brought a series of storm systems that in the end dropped 2m of snow on the mountains. if you can believe it, blackomb closed out the year (last sunday) on a 35cm snow day. this latest storm brought higher freezing levels and the first 25cm of the storm was dense and heavy. but the last 10cm fell as light dry powder. perfect...
the skies cleared and monday was perhaps the most beautiful day of the season. lots of fresh snow in the alpine, and clear warm skies. the snow wasn't going to last for long as the freezing levels were forecast to rise throughout the day.
a few friends and i hiked up to flute. as usual, the snow was fantastic and there was plenty of it...
lots of new snow...
the first track...
lines on flute shoulder...
and my line (in there somewhere) down lesser flute...
by the time we made it around a 2nd time, the top layer has already started to settle and the riding was a lot slower. still found some great turns, but it looks like spring conditions are here to stay.
it was like winter disappeared overnight. this week, we've had valley temps around 25C, and even the alpine has been hitting double digits. been up the past few days and it's soft and sticky. lots of snow and terrain left to explore. don't forget the sunscreen.
