The last few days produced some excellent snow riding after four inches of cold fluff softened things back up after another rain event earlier this week. Yesterday was a cloudy powder day that just missed being excellent due to the hard surface underneath that was sometimes felt. Mostly the turns were soft but we hoped there had been just a little more depth.
This morning dawned clear and cold with the added attraction of the Summit Chair opening for the first time this season. Northwest has been up for a week now so we are finally hitting the big time.
I got up to Summit maybe 15 minutes after opening but there were very few people.
The snow was drifted into the gullies for some sweet turns.
Here are my turns heading down Cow’s Face on the way to a run called Wanoga. The new chair due next winter will service lots of this terrain. Difference is we’ll be able to drop down to a new lower catch line.
It got nice and soft lower down Wanoga.
Looking back up at the top of Cow’s Face. This new run/lift combo will give us a sweet 3000’+ run.
It flattens out lower down but Admin might agree it’s still fun with lots of little terrain features and bumps and rolls.
I went back for a few more runs, as today was magnificent!
Oh yeah, they opened the backside as well. It’s crunchy for about 400 vert, but then it’s more like heli skiing down to the West Catch Line.
See.
This is from the same spot looking SW towards Kwohl Butte, another local BC fun zone.
The Three Sisters with a six-foot snowpack that feels like ten feet easy. Everything is covered. There are no rocks. Best early season coverage I can remember.
