Bachelor 12/21: still here, more good pow...

Yesterday I noticed the snow was drifting onto aspects that normally are scoured by the prevailing storm winds. Today I found out that was favorable for the western facing slopes that opened up today. Both Outback and Northwest were closed yesterday and received at least another 6", but with the loading probably a lot more. It snowed another 6" last night over that so it was REALLY good today.
I missed the opening bell, so I slid over to Outback and there was a ton of open pow for my first run. The second was off to the west towards NWX and as I hit the last turnoff to NWX (assuming the chair was still closed) I see the open sign...nice. I'm fifth chair I think, the other riders spread out ahead of me. I take out my phone to snap some pics.

About half way up you see the last tracks from those who traversed high over to NWX from Outback Chair. We have had an exceptional December. Today was another insane day.

This is just about half way up NWX and as you can see it looks good. It was wall-to-wall sweet pow right off the top of the chair. Not so wind-effected as usual.

We must have had nearly 60" of snow this week as the stats are solid: West Village (Base) 86", Mid Mountain 110", Season Total Snowfall is 175".

The excitement is building as there is still no one coming down. I have my line all picked out over by Devil's Backbone...

Here is some skier with a red hat ahead of me. He must have been good this year (got an early present). My line was untouched. Ho ho ho!

Speaking of competition and making the most of good days, should it be pretty obvious from looking at the trail map and just riding lifts where the best terrain is?

Hopefully conditions stay this good, I'll be skiing there starting on the 4th!

I'm sure Staley will do just fine. Mammoth should be good training because Bachelor is perhaps the only ski area in the West that gets even more chronic wind.
