Got to parking lot at 7:50. Waited about 12 minutes in line for a ticket. Probably got to Thunder around 8:25 or so.

Skiied underneath the chairlift maybe 4 times. 6 inches to maybe 9 inches of fresh, fairly light snow on top of .....well......serious hard pack! Suffice it to say that turns were very interesting.....turn scrape, turn scrape. But the turns were pretty nice ! Some really great, fun lines underneath the chairlift (#3).

Then went over to South Bowl. It was.....about 9 inches maybe 12 inches possibly on top of hard pack -- really hard, hard pack. I took a tiny spill and just started sliding. Seems like it was prime ave type of conditions, where the top just completely slides on top of the ice/hard pack. Getting out was a little treacherous too, probably took a gouge out of my bases....ARG.

Figured I'd try some other stuff, went over to Goldridge and got some nice lines off to the side of the run, then went thru the trees. Fantastic. Not too tracked up.

Skiied underneath the lift a bit more.....then went to the left of the chairlift (looking up towards the top) -- it was started to get tracked up and a bit heavy.

More lines underneath the chairlift -still some stashes, but being east facing that sun was really starting to warm things up and make it heavy.

Took a break for lunch, met up with a friend and did a little hike to a nice little stash that leaves you on Bonanza (can't recall the name of the "secret area."

Then skiied past South Bowl -- can't recall the name......but it was NOT that good . My buddy recalled that the conditions had deteriorated since 9 am in the morning (it was 2 pm by then). The hike out was.....HOT. 25 minute hike.....that was fun :troll:

By then it was almost 2:45. I had hit it really hard for 6 hrs (took a 10 min lunch break) -- and needed to get back.

No problems getting out. The lifty stated they think they might stay open until June.

My buddy tried Nightmare and said it was MUY gnarly. We both rode the lift down, got to the parking lot at 3, and called it a day.

Beautiful day on the slopes, bluebird in SoCal -- can't beat it....if you're thinking of going tomorrow, will be all tracked up.......

cheers

Nice writeup, my experience matches yours pretty well except I left at noon. Right now on the way to mammoth and enjoying watching the sun set over mt whitney. Yup, loving life in socal.

Another fine report, Jojo. I slid a few times, but not very far. I was telling some one on the lift that at least it wasn't blue ice underneath. Goldridge was good around 9:30-10. Not so good around 12:30. That's the way it goes this time of year, I guess. Tube was really fun early, but I stayed skier's right the last time in there and kept finding scrap-y top. Most of the fluffier stuff was middle-left.
