Baldy Season Passes 2011-2012 Now Avail

Well......guess we can count on another year of packed lift lines at Baldy on good days.........

Virtual pass $119 and full season pass: $259.

Upgrade from VP to full season pass: $130
Average # of epic runs/first tracks I'd get in not having to wait in line for a ticket and the mile long Chair #1 on good days?: ~ 4
Not having to wait in the ticket line or mile long Chair #1 loading line on above said day? priceless

I was really hoping they'd do away with the virtual pass......I personally would rather pay more money and have less traffic and longer days before all the snow is tracked....

Just my 2 cents..... :stir:

My workaround plan has been to go to Baldy on the day the storm is scheduled to end (not the day after it actually does end). I've had to put on chains and deal with wind and limited visibility at times, but short to no lines and fresh powder have made it worthwhile. I went on Mon., Jan 3rd and Sat., Feb. 26th.

This is the "are you feeling lucky?" strategy. It produced my best ever Baldy day (and one of top 3 lift service lifetime anywhere) on Mar. 21, 1991. The downside is that you are much more likely to have lifts not running (wind, rime icing) and runs not open (South Bowl, all of chair 1 terrain not yet avy controlled) than if you wait a day. Due to decades of distrusting Baldy management to get up and running expeditiously after a big storm, I generally would go "the day after it actually does end" but get there really early, like before 7:30AM. The improved management since last year makes baldyskier's strategy somewhat lower risk than before IMHO.

Good point, Tony, I've gotten burned that way before, although not this year. I've noticed that they have gotten operational faster this year on stormy days. Perhaps once more Baldy regulars catch on to this improvement I'll have more competition on stormy days.

I too wish they had done away with it or raised the price significantly. I have used my "real" pass five or six times, so I guess it was worth it. Not sure if I will re-up, though.

If this forecast plays out, looks like Monday will be a good day to give Baldy a shot:

I'll be up there if the storm lives up to its billing. I'll have a Grey Giro helmet and a large green fanny pack.

I'm with you........I'm thinking Monday or Tuesday can be the call. Pray for a big one tonight and tomorrow! \:D/

They have to be getting an insane amount of snow today, I just finished the LA Marathon and it was terrible, it was a torrential downpour from 8am (mile 3 for me) and still going. Cold out too. Worst weather day of the year and I got to run 26.2 in it. My feet are not happy, not that my legs are much better though. Obviously Baldys out for the next few days for me, can't walk.

congrats socal \:D/

talk about crappy weather for the marathon ugh.......

i'm not 100% sure if the wind meter is working up there, but i think it's safe to assume it's probably very windy up there. might not make for a perfect pow day.

i was checking the satellite and looks like there could be residual snow showers tomorrow as the front moves through......

tuesday should be beautiful, but monday could see some really nice fresh tracks.

yes, it's cold.....26 degrees at the notch most of the day.

i'll make the call in the morning............

Wish I could make it up there- have fun. Just got the email that Waterman will open Tuesday for a powder day- argh! If only I could get a day off this week...

I'd rather pay $104 for a single-day ticket to Aspen/Snowmass than $119 for Virtual pass to Baldy any day.

That pass pricing just proves that they offer a shitty experience 99.9% of the time.

Thanks, probably one of the worst weather days in my 5 years living out here, figures that it would happen on the day of the marathon.

I'd rather have a $119 season pass and drive up than get on a plane fly to Co, drive, pay for hotel, etc. It is what it is, we've got 17mm people in the LA area (including Orange County) so even if they stopped the virtual pass it would still be crowded up there now that everyone knows about the place. If you're flying to LA to ski and not driving to Mammoth it's your own fault.

That's a slight exaggeration. But even if true when you live one hour away you get to cherry pick the 0.1%. The pass pricing to me reflects the 1/3 probability of a wipeout season and gives them some revenue during those.

Probably true on good weekend days. The cheap passes are adding to peak crowds but it's hard to say how much. On the really good days it's easily worth the $50 or whatever a full price ticket is.

just when i thought baldy was done it gets a rematch with some snow that begged for the steep lines to be had once again.

Time to bump this thread.

Got an e-mail from Baldy yesterday. They are now offering unlimited skiing and off-season lift rides on a subscription basis - $19.95/month with no restrictions. You can cancel at any time, though you must pay the first and last month in advance. Not sure if there's a need to still go to the awful ticket window with these like you did for the Chamber of Commerce passes. Assuming you can start in November, it might not be a bad deal. See how the season is shaping up weather wise and then decide if you want to continue paying though March/April. Looks like there's a limit on the number of these passes though, so it might be now or never. You won't be getting much value in October/November, unless of course you are a big fan of the comedic stylings of Bobby Collins.

Baldy also has a legit new website representing a vast improvement over the old one. Glad to see the continued increase in professionalism and marketing ingenuity since Tom Treacar (sp?) joined the ownership group.

Why not start the subscription in January, go to March or April depending on the year?
Pretty sure they are selling a limited number of subscriptions, so you wouldn't necessarily have that option by the time January rolls around. Otherwise, that would clearly be the play.
