It's becoming the norm nowadays.........
And will stay that way (on weekends at least) unless coverage gets good enough at the base to allow those who care about their gear to ski to the bottom.

I was up there on Saturday, and there was plenty of coverage to ski chair 1. There's never really a guarantee of no base risk at Baldy, IMO, because there are so many underlying rocks, boulders, fallen trees, etc. It's about as good as it ever gets now, as long as you avoid windstripped areas. The problem with Baldy is that a 3.5' base may have barely covered a boulder or fallen tree that would have been visible (and aviodable) with a 2.5' base. I thought conditions were very good on Sat., including coverage on Bentley's.

Of course I haven't seen the current storm results, but the Baldy report says it's skiable to the parking lot now. As the storm was 30 inches, I agree that's enough for experienced Baldy skiers to get down and stay out of trouble for the time being. So this is SoCal's first "A" weekend of the season.

no hitchhiking....plus it was impossible with the completely packed parking lot.....besides, real men hike the whole way up, right?.... \:D/
