November is a good month for a non-ski vacation. I just got back from mine to Bermuda, Florida and a Caribbean cruise.
I totally agree. But in the meantime, if you live where skiing is available consistently year-round, you go.

I hate snowmobiles, but around here you need them as our roadside attractions are few and the approaches are long. But the great beer, intense local athleticism and lack of religious fanaticism more than make up for it.

Bob Shannon, local bone doc at Desert Orthopedics, looking up into the bowls of Ball Butte. Broken Top and Broken Hand in the background. The snow was wind board mixed with sastrugi, quite skiable but this outing was more about getting things dialed for later in the season.

East face of Broken Top, a often seen but rather distant objective.

Ball Butte at about 9:30 this morning. The jet is way south, so the wind was way east, good thing we have something on the ground with the sun low in the sky. Others who live in the west know what I mean…

Uptrack, Ball Butte East.

Shannon, father of three sons, checking out the descent. Later, we went to Ten Barrel for a few pints. His snow machine blew up on the descent, bummer!

After three runs we decided to split, time to go back to town and get ready for next week.

Mt Bachelor, sitting high and dry in the Omega Block.
