break out the heavy wool sweaters, down jackets, and balaclava's!

temps in single digits. maybe it got into the low teens, but sure didn't feel like it. this cold spell plans to stick around for awhile too. mostly cloudy and flatlight for most of the day (especially in the pipe). BS recieved 9" in the last 48hrs. wind was low, but even a slight breeze froze your head.

i started on the challenger lift. hit BRT. lots of tracked up pow that looked nice, but very light and EVERYTHING was frozen solid underneath. kinda hard on the legs. not very forgiving at all! i assumed all off trail terrain would be similar to this.

i expected to ride the pipe all day anyways, so let's go check out Andesite. the park is coming along. yes, the pipe is cut. FINALLY! (nothing to boast about though) the walls have anywhere between 2-5' of vert and it was not cut recently. walls were flat soft ice. pow stash at bottom of left wall. it had not been maintained, so i had to do a little work on it myself. (it's too bad the terrain park crew seems to always be working on "more important" features. anyone been to the sno-bar yet? ) i scraped away the powder at the bottom of the wall for my first hit and just hiked it for most of the day to stay warm. the drop-in was difficult due to the exaggerated vert. pipe comp on sunday though, so it should be cut fresh for that. .....still with inconsistent vert.

no pics because it really wasn't worth it. everything is rock solid and the most fun was found cruising the groomers.

Looks like the time to ski Moonlight, where the subsurface would not have been through a melt/freeze cycle. Was the Challenger terrain going northeast through the trees toward Iron Horse any better? Patrick mentioned you taking him into that area.
