a few new inches(~4"). lots of wind depositted snow on NE facing slopes.
scattered pow/crust/ice. oh, rocks and fences too. a near powder day
for the east coaster that i am.
4 tram laps in the morning. 2 down Lenin and Marx. 1 down the Gullies
(#2) and into the bowl, 1 down Gullies (#1) and over to Crons. best
snow in Crons.
partly cloudy until about noon. upper Lenin was real icey, rocky, windy,
and just plain dangerous. i never hit Liberty Bowl, but i suspect the
same.......since the wind was coming from that direction(SW). the gullies
hadn't opened yet, so i hit Lenin and Marx for 2 laps. we kept getting
spots of sunshine, completely lighting up the Gullies. i couldn't wait to hit
these for the first time. when they FINALLY openned them up, the clouds
had rolled in and snow started to fly. no sun for my line down the
Gullies. ~40 degrees in #2. bowl has nice coverage as well. really
windy up top. no surprise. it was near whiteout conditions up there after
noon time. ok. onto the next spot.
headed over to Moonlight Basin to grab my stashes. Lone Tree lines riding nice.
the lift served terrain over here was riding much like the terrain off the
tram. i hit a couple lines down Lone Tree (S) and found some freshy
fresh. then i hit a couple more lines off of Lookout Ridge (Shaftway and
Ulery's Trace to Trapline). good snow here too. i didn't have the energy
to hit the Headwaters. just covering a lot of ground. k, that about does it
for Moon. oh, the groomers had all good coverage.
back to big sky. the Challenger lift has been windhold all day at this
point. it's about 2pm now. they open it back up. sweet, and i was
thinking about heading out. no friggin way! Challenger kicks a$$. did 3 laps here.
down BRT(big rock tongue). good snow up top, then got a little firm in
the middle of the chute, then back to powder pockets and some firm
spots, as all the new was basically wind depositted. my line caught
peoples attention, cause i noticed the groups at the bottom all staring.
don't you love that?
down Highway to 17 Green(under the lift). very good snow here in most spots.
lap down Highway. few powder stashes, then back to the base.
zuchinni patch was closed. real boney. favorite lines on the hill in here.
called it a day.
also heard that the Cooler was riding really well yesterday. 7" new last
night. Moonlight reports 10" new. good thing for winds, huh? ah yes!
also overheard that the best in the state right now is big/moon.......
coming from a guest who recently visited big mtn.
Shedhorn lift was not running, but all terrain on the hill is skiable.....lift
served terrain. the hike-to-terrain like the pinnacles and A-Z's will
probably not recieve enough snow this year in order to open. including
all skiable acres at big sky, i would guess that 90-95% is open.
some spots better than others, as indicated above.
