blackcomb opens this weekend!! (nov 5-6)

Some areas, like Mammoth and the 4 in SoCal last year, look at their mountain and decide if there's enough snow on it to run some lifts. Is that such a radical criterion in this day and age?

Yep.
 
I expect you guys and the Pacific Northwest to have a very good early season with average to slightly colder temperatures and above average precipitation through November and into December.
Enjoy it and keep the reports coming!
 
Mark will hopefully enjoy a "normal" PNW ski season this time. He may go a month wondering whether he'll ever see the sun again, but he should have plenty of fresh snow as consolation.
 
tony, what is sun? i believe we went 28 / 31 for rain days in october. yet somehow it's not hard to stay positive when you can see the snowline creeping down the mountain...
