Slept in, shoveled, cleaned off the cars, shoveled some more, thanked neighbor profusely for snowblowing services, shoveled some more. Fluffy stuff, at least 10" or so by morning, with
a few more falling during the day.

Decided on Bolton as a close-to-Burlington option and a more optimistic early day at Jay tomorrow. Arrived at Bolton at 12:30 after an adventurous drive up the access road, with a silly Camaro stuck without traction at the steepest pitch.

Johnny skied the Timberline quad, reporting waist deep in places, and very skiable woods. Kathleen tended to Conor's skiing desires until the blowing snow and falling temps spelled an early end to his ski day. She then explored the Vista chair terrain, finding some woods and tricky scratchy-to-fluffy steeper stuff. Dad watched the little ones until 3:30, then packed in three runs off the Vista chair in about :35.

Blowing snow, biting into your face, holding you up at the top of the trail. Iced goggles, followed by crusted eyebrows, followed by squinty-eyed descents through snaky drifts along the trail sides. Low light and heavy snow sometimes made turns more of a hopeful gesture than a athletic manuever. Oh, well. It's powder, and I'm not complaining. Snowed all day, decent crowds, and cramped quarters for kid watching in the base lodge.

Perhaps I'm becoming a ski dad whose, but hopefully Bolton's future renovations will include a facelift for the baselodge soon. It's chilly and rather univiting in there.

Hoping for an early roust of the kids tomorrow and a full day of kid watching punctuated by faceshots from time to time. Hopefully hangovers will keep the Montreal and Burlington revelers in their beds for a couple extra hours before they arrive to sample the goods at Jay. We'll see.
