billski had it about right in his report on the assessment of the place..like i said many times before , i go for the snow quality easy drive and the dead crowds... the 50 plus mid week crowd at bretton generally stays clear of the short , but in my opinion very nice tree lines at bretton. all of these make up for the suspect vertical, but like bill said you can bang runs like crazy and the average bretton skier really does stay out of the trees. so it's like your own private stash.. for $199 mid week... the only beef is they really have no real bump lines.. but that's all right.. that's why god created the big k... in the month of may!!!!!
monday: very cold, about 5 at the base at 8:30..warmed up to about 10.. no crowds, sick pp on the groomers and the trees were great. on the west side ( and i have to disagree with bill here,) the john graves glades were great... fully loaded up and first tracks still available even on a monday morn after the wwekend.. the entrance scares off a good number , so good fresh is in there to be had if you go back bill. boundry lines glades were closed on monday?????? , but we jumped in anyways... it is not a good idea to take new skis in there yet cause there still is exposure, but you will have a great time with beaters... skipping over the groomers and moving to the skiers right, the rosebrook side is indeed loaded.. the access bites it ( alleged new quad next year), but it was worth a few runs.. will be killer when the new lift gets in though... so we ended up mostly on the west side in the john graves and the maple glades. hooked up with a couple of knuckledraggin boarders to earn some turns on a newly cut trail that has no lift access over by rosebrook a solid 24 of untracked for that run
tuesday: unreal cold... the coldest i have been skiing in a long time.2 at the base and went up to 5.. they got a fresh 2 of the driest snow i have ever skied.. it actually made it more difficult than the day before becasue the snow was so dry it was sticky and grabby...total concentration needed when burning short mogul turns on the flats.. again, we mostly hung out in the trees, but all grommers were again pp top to bot. the place was deserted by 2:00pm... if i been able to access river's report from cannon , we probably would have hit cannon on tues.. it just looked too cold!!!!.. the tram line trail looks ready from the parkway, but i guess u can't tell until u r in there.. hard to spot any lines on it on the way back tues night.. 8 day layoff put us back next thurs and fri.. hopefully from cannon for at least one of em
