WOW! The skiing today was unbelievable. Got a late start and arrived at Mid-Burke around 1030. Hopped on the Quad shortly thereafter and headed down Willoughby. Beautiful packed powder, no crust, and FAST skiing. The Dipper was much of the same. Took third run down East Bowl. Very fast run-out. Unbelievable cover--no rocks, stumps, grass etc. you usually find this time of year. Spent rest of the afternoon playing on the training slope and on Dougs/Lower Dougs/McHargs. Snow softned up slightly in the afternoon sun, but never got too soft--was just perfect.
There was actually a lift line today (which is good for Burke!), but I think it partly had to do with the fact that they were running the lift off the back-up power supply so it was running slower than normal (which is really slow!).
Heard a few rumors today:
1) They're putting in a HS Quad next season (I've heard this EVERY YEAR for the past 15 and havent seen it yet!).
2) Next weekend is Burke's last for the season--this, I believe hold some truth. They normally close April 1. Majority of skiers there today were pass holders, so Burke will probably lose money if they stay open any later, which is unfortunate because there is so much snow.
3) Burke may run the lifts the 2nd weekend of April--again, this is a rumor. They are holding some sort of snowmobile event on the training hill that weekend, and some people have heard that if the snow holds up for skiing, they'll run the lifts. Call ahead to confirm.
One of the best days of the season to be had today. Burke still remains my favorite mountain. Hope to see it up and alive next season!
