skied cannon on tuesday after buddy gil hit loon on monday and " cracked" ( his term ) after about 1 hour and the discovery that they had smashed every trail on the hill... not a bump run on the mountain except the au natural triple trouble which is not realistically skiable due to the lack of a base. he promptly threw the new 1080's in the back of the truck, sped up the notch and dropped the $20.00 for the half day at cannon <BR>cannon on tues... not bad at all but very bad indeed!?!? ( see below ) soft corn bumps on the front face off the triple... soft carving on the grommers of the quad... dropped inbto the echo forest for 3.. nice and packed, but thin... some slick spotw up top off tram but not really bad at all... for april... but it ain't april, boys!!!!! very warm.. about 45 at midday and overcast... pleasantly uncrowded and a slight wind of about 10... hit hardscrabble 1 time , but it's not worth it.. very bad coverage and rough on the bases...the sad part is that while it was a very fun day as far as soft snow... it looked and felt like it was april 1st... the thin base that exists in central nh is very depressing for those of us who live for the spring...there sill not be one in nh unless things change real fast... zoomer had plenty of coverage and no bare spots but the base is thin... avalanche and paulies and rocket are showing grass in spots <BR>loon on thurs.. woke up to 2 inches of fresh and enough fog to film a horror movie... fog broke about 11, which made it tolerable till noon... and then to paraphrase van morrison "then the crowd of kid racers showed up and temps dropped and the rains came tumblin down " ( sorry about that ) it all fell apart in the span of 2 hours.. the 2 inches of fresh became blended in and produced a fine frozen gran on top of pretty much an ice base on all trails... the main junctiions were in ridculously slick shape... mad an ill-advised attempt to poach the mikes way trees of the gondy and almost killed myself...they were making ( it appeared ) no plans to blow anywhere... the intermediate bump line under the quad has essentially #!*% the bed altogether....they have not blown a flake on it all year hopefully that has all changed with today's event of colder temps , but loon mtn has big problems.. they have no base at all... many places where u cannot even plant your pole into ground without hitting dirt or frozen topsoil... i guess in hindsight they knew what was coming and had to smash all the bumps becasue they would have been rendered unskiable... the place needs snow not just cold temps to make it casue i got info that their water supply , i'm sure like everyone , is in trouble... simple cold temps are not going to get it done at this point... unless there is a major shift in patterns , central nh will not be spinning lifts after april 1st..all this negativity could go away with about 4 feet of fresh( no joke) just my observations.. back on mon and tues from anywhere but there!!!!!!!
