no comp access delayed this untimely reporting:
cannon on monday: drove up to lincoln on sunday night ( took 5 hours .. 93 was shut down for over 2 hours due to carnage and black ice).. arrived in lincoln at about midnight with what looked like the river qui running through town... it was pouring!!!. threw on the weather channel and figured it was all over with the cold temps coming, but curiously noticed an area of pink on the radar smack dab in the middle of the white mountians... loon was not an option since the divorce papers were filed 2 weeks ago, so cannon was the call, fully conceeding that it was gonna be real real bad. but a funny thing happened on the way through the notch.. snow appeared... cannon had received 12 inches at the top and about 8 on the lover half... they had smashed everything on the front face 5 because they really had to... like most places, i would guess... it was the best day of the year!!!!!a legit powder day!!! it was very cold and windy .. i skied the front face all day off the triple alternating between gary's, rocket , avie and zoomer... echo lake glades were loaded with knee deep and didn't bother up top... wind was less on the front...about 100 people were there.. killer day..
tuesday at loon: a group of people on a ski outing from work planned far in advance forced me to suspend divorce proceedings with loon and meet up with the group... i almost blew em off and went back to cannon with buddy gil , who had arrived mon night and was still in shock when he went out the door tues morning to cannon and i wasn't following him... i should'uv!!!!... lincoln had received absolutely no nada none , snow from the event and the subsequent temp plunge... i could not believe how bad it was, and i am a firm believer that a horrible day making turns is better than the best day at work.... but this was pushing it... it was very cold , about 15, and wind was about 20...it was boilerplate in the best spots and literal blue ice in the worst... they had to groom everything, obviously, but it still was absurd.. i actually feel sorry for them, after all the ripping on em iv'e done. hooked up with a patroler for a ride and got info that they are under severe water restrictions until substantial precip comes... they did make some snow during the day, but condsidering the ideal temps , it appeared to be very limited. i know i am done with the place and don't want to appear biased, but this is the no bulls and my honest opinion is they get hit big this week , i would not recommend go there under any circumstances for any families going on vaca this week... it was quite simply the worst conditions i have every seen.. i do not think it has gotten markedly better since... just my opinion
wed and thurs at bretton: bretton had picked up about 8 from the sunday night event... packed powder on all the groomers ( which is , unfortunately, about 90% of their on- piste terrain... they appear to be, as buddy said they would, be letting the sides of the trails bump up, but will need about 18 more for consisitently lines to form, because like everyone else they had to groom over the past 2 weeks. the trees at bretton were in fine shape.. the west side skierss extreme right beginer trees had hero lines through them from the traffic and were very easy.. we checked out the skiers far right side which requires a small travers of their long mountian road down to get to.. off of this blue 2 mile home road , i think it's called , you can drop into 5 different newly cut tree lines.. 3 of them i would call solid intermediate tree lines and 2 i would call legit black diamond lines... the best thing about them is that nobody skis them because bretton is clearly a beginers mountain... now nothing there was rivaling the tres amigos or the black hole at smuggs, but all i know is i was skiing 8 inches of fresh in about a 1000ft vert drop tree run of of a high speed detach... so i was pretty happy.. came back for more on thurs and it was even better cause the temps were about 20 f warmer from the previous very cold day on wed of about 5f.
postscript: i would think that cannon and bretton should hold thier pp and in the trees fresh p, throughout the weekend...loon is in really bad shape and i would avoid it for the time being... i'm done for the next 13 days during the mass vacation circus. if you have to ski during the next week, i highly recommend you pay no attention to the resort's reports and do your own homework and pick your spots accordingly
